chandrasvaroopam nijachakshush-aiva jnatavyam anyair avagamyate kim
वस्तुस्वरूपं स्फुटबोधचक्षुषा स्वेनैव वेद्यं न तु पण्डितेन ।
चन्द्रस्वरूपं निजचक्षुषैव ज्ञातव्यमन्यैरवगम्यते किम् ॥
The true nature of Reality must be known by one's own clear eye of understanding, not through a scholar. The moon's form must be seen with your own eyes; can others see it for you?
What it means
You can hear endless descriptions of the moon, but you only know it by looking up yourself. Direct experience can't be borrowed. Look for yourself, and trust what you truly see.हिंदी में अर्थ
सत्य का स्वरूप अपनी ही साफ़ समझ की आँख से जानना होता है, किसी पंडित से नहीं। चाँद का रूप अपनी आँखों से ही दिखता है, क्या दूसरे तुम्हारे लिए देख सकते हैं?
चाँद के अनगिनत वर्णन सुन लीजिए, पर उसे खुद ऊपर देखकर ही जानते हैं। सीधा अनुभव उधार नहीं लिया जा सकता।
