indriyani pura jitva jitam tribhuvanam tvaya
smaradbhir iva tad vairam indriyair eva nirjitah
इन्द्रियाणि पुरा जित्वा जितं त्रिभुवनं त्वया।
स्मरद्भिरिव तद्वैरमिन्द्रियैरेव निर्जितः॥
Long ago you conquered your senses and then conquered the three worlds. Now it is as if those same senses, remembering that old grudge, have defeated you.

मंदोदरी रावण के पतन का असली कारण पहचानती है, उसने अपनी इच्छाओं पर क़ाबू खो दिया। जिस संयम से सफलता मिली, उसे बनाए रखना पड़ता है, वरना वही कमज़ोरी सब छीन लेती है।
