Valmiki Ramayana 6.14.7 meaning

na samna shakyate keertir na samna shakyate yashah praptum lakshmana lokesmin jayo va ranamoordhani

Fame cannot be won by gentle words alone, Lakshmana, nor glory, nor victory at the front of battle in this world.

What it means
Gentleness is a virtue, but it isn't enough on its own. There are moments when standing firm and acting decisively is necessary. Wisdom knows when kindness needs backbone.

Spoken by Rama.
