Valmiki Ramayana 4.29.40 meaning

kritartha hy-akritarthanam mitranam na bhavanti ye tan mritan api kravyadah kritaghnan nopabhunjate

Those who, once their own goals are met, do not help the friends whose goals are still unmet, are ungrateful; even scavengers would not touch their bodies.

What it means
It's easy to forget friends once our own problems are solved. Rama says this kind of ingratitude is deeply ugly. Remember who helped you rise, and help them in turn.

Spoken by Rama.
