Valmiki Ramayana 3.61.4 meaning

pura bhootva mridur dantah sarvabhootahite ratah na krodhavasham apannah prakritim hatum arhasi

You have always been gentle, self-controlled and devoted to the good of all beings. Don't fall into the grip of anger and abandon your true nature.

What it means
Lakshmana calms Rama when grief turns into rage. A great loss can push anyone toward a version of themselves they don't recognise. A friend's reminder of who you really are can pull you back.

Spoken by Lakshmana.
