Valmiki Ramayana 3.31.14 meaning

teekshnam alpapradataram pramattam garvitam shatham vyasane sarvabhootani nabhidhavanti parthivam

When a ruler is harsh, gives little, is careless, proud and deceitful, no one runs to help him when trouble comes.

What it means
Shurpanakha scolds Ravana, and her words hold true anywhere. The way you treat people in easy times decides who stands with you in hard times. Harshness and arrogance leave you alone when it counts.

Spoken by Shurpanakha.
