Valmiki Ramayana 2.98.18 meaning

yath-agaram dridhasthoonam jeernam bhootv-avaseedati tath-avaseedanti nara jaramrityuvasham gatah

Just as a house with strong pillars grows old and finally caves in, so people sink down once they come under the power of old age and death.

What it means
Rama consoles Bharata after their father's death. Even the strongest body is a building that ages. This is not meant to frighten but to steady us, so we stop expecting permanence and treasure the time we have.

Spoken by Rama.
