Valmiki Ramayana 2.93.35 meaning

mannimittam idam duhkham prapto ramah sukhochitah dhig jeevitam nrishansasya mama lokavigarhitam

Because of me, Rama, who was used to comfort, has fallen into this suffering. Shame on my cruel life, condemned by the world!

What it means
Bharata did nothing wrong, yet he feels the guilt of what was done in his name. Taking responsibility, even for harm we did not intend, is a sign of a sensitive conscience.

Spoken by Bharata.
