मातर्लक्ष्मि भजस्व कंचिदपरं मत्काङ्क्षिणी मा स्म भूर्भोगेषु स्पृहयालवस्तव वशे का निःस्पृहाणामसि सद्यः स्यूतपलाशपत्रपुटिकापात्रैः पवित्रीकृतैर्भिक्षावस्तुभिरेव सम्प्रति वयं वृत्तिं समीहामहे॥

Mother Lakshmi, go and serve someone else; do not long for me. Those who crave pleasures are in your power, but what are you to those who want nothing? Now we only wish to live on alms, eaten from fresh-stitched leaf bowls made pure.

What it means

Money has power over us only to the extent that we want what it buys. Respect wealth, but do not let it own you. Being able to say 'I have enough' is a quiet kind of freedom.

हिंदी में अर्थ

माँ लक्ष्मी, किसी और की सेवा करो, मेरी चाह मत रखो। भोगों के इच्छुक तुम्हारे वश में हैं, पर जिन्हें कुछ नहीं चाहिए, उनके लिए तुम क्या हो? अब हम बस ताज़ा सिले पलाश के पत्तों के पवित्र दोनों में मिली भिक्षा से गुज़ारा करना चाहते हैं।

पैसे की ताकत हम पर उतनी ही है जितना हम उससे ख़रीदी चीज़ें चाहते हैं। धन का सम्मान करो, पर उसे मालिक मत बनने दो। 'मेरे पास काफ़ी है' कह पाना एक शांत आज़ादी है।
