When honour fades, wealth is lost, those who come asking leave empty-handed, relatives grow few, servants leave, and youth slowly disappears, the only fitting thing for the wise is to live somewhere in a grove by a mountain cave, made pure by the Ganga's waters.

What it means
When the outer supports of life start falling away, it can be a doorway rather than a disaster. That is the moment to turn toward peace, simplicity and spiritual depth instead of clinging to what is leaving.

Spoken by Bhartrihari.
