These kings are hard to please, their minds as restless as horses. And we have big wishes, our hearts set on huge rewards. Age takes the body, death takes this dear life. Friend, for a wise person there is nothing better in this world than inner discipline.

What it means
Depending on fickle bosses and chasing big rewards leaves you anxious, while age and death keep approaching. Investing in self-discipline and inner growth is the one effort that never depends on someone else's mood.

Spoken by Bhartrihari.
