Vairagya Shataka 76 meaning

Time makes even glorious Mount Meru fall, wrapped in the fire at the end of an age. It dries up oceans full of sea creatures. It brings an end to the earth, though held up by mountains. What then of this body, as shaky as the tip of a baby elephant's ear?

What it means
If mountains, oceans and the earth itself will one day end, our bodies are surely temporary. This is not meant to frighten, but to help us hold life lightly and use our time with care.

Spoken by Bhartrihari.
