tvam raja vayam apy upasitaguru-prajn-abhiman-onnatah khyatas tvam vibhavair yashansi kavayo dikshu pratanvanti nah ittham manadhan-atidooram ubhayor apy avayor antaram yady asmasu paranmukhosi vayam apy ekantato nihsprihah

त्वं राजा वयमप्युपासितगुरुप्रज्ञाभिमानोन्नताः ख्यातस्त्वं विभवैर्यशांसि कवयो दिक्षु प्रतन्वन्ति नः इत्थं मानधनातिदूरमुभयोरप्यावयोरन्तरं यद्यस्मासु पराङ्मुखोऽसि वयमप्येकान्ततो निःस्पृहाः॥

You are a king; we too stand tall with the pride of wisdom gained by serving teachers. You are famous for wealth; poets spread our fame in every direction. So in honour and riches, we are not that far apart. If you turn your face from us, we have no need of you either.

What it means

Knowledge and character have their own kind of wealth. You do not have to beg for respect from powerful people. When you value what you bring, you can stand before anyone with quiet dignity.

हिंदी में अर्थ

तुम राजा हो, तो हम भी गुरुओं की सेवा से पाई बुद्धि के गर्व से ऊँचे हैं। तुम धन से प्रसिद्ध हो, तो कवि हमारा यश भी दिशाओं में फैलाते हैं। इस तरह मान-धन में हम दोनों में बहुत अंतर नहीं। अगर तुम हमसे मुँह फेरते हो, तो हमें भी तुमसे कुछ नहीं चाहिए।

ज्ञान और चरित्र की अपनी दौलत होती है। ताकतवर लोगों से इज़्ज़त की भीख नहीं माँगनी पड़ती। जब अपनी कीमत पहचानते हो, तो किसी के भी सामने शांत गरिमा से खड़े हो सकते हो।
