bhoge rogabhayam kule chyutibhayam vitte nripalad bhayam mane dainyabhayam bale ripubhayam roope jaraya bhayam shastre vadibhayam gune khalabhayam kaye kritantad bhayam sarvam vastu bhay-anvitam bhuvi nrinam vairagyam ev-abhayam

भोगे रोगभयं कुले च्युतिभयं वित्ते नृपालाद्भयं माने दैन्यभयं बले रिपुभयं रूपे जराया भयम् शास्त्रे वादिभयं गुणे खलभयं काये कृतान्ताद्भयं सर्वं वस्तु भयान्वितं भुवि नृणां वैराग्यमेवाभयम्॥

In pleasure lies fear of illness; in family, of disgrace; in wealth, of rulers; in honour, of humiliation; in strength, of enemies; in beauty, of age; in learning, of rivals; in virtue, of the wicked; in the body, of death. Everything on earth carries fear. Only letting go is fearless.

What it means

Everything we hold carries a matching fear of losing it. The more we grip, the more anxious we become. Inner detachment does not mean giving everything away; it means not letting what you have rule your peace.

भोग में रोग का डर, कुल में गिरने का डर, धन में राजा का डर, मान में अपमान का डर, बल में दुश्मन का डर, रूप में बुढ़ापे का डर, शास्त्र में विरोधी का डर, गुण में दुष्ट का डर, शरीर में मौत का डर। संसार की हर चीज़ में डर है। केवल वैराग्य ही निडर है।

जो कुछ हम पकड़ते हैं, उसके साथ उसे खोने का डर भी आता है। जितनी कसकर पकड़, उतनी चिंता। वैराग्य का मतलब सब छोड़ना नहीं, बल्कि चीज़ों को अपनी शांति का मालिक न बनने देना है।
