Some people stand before the rich, in the misery of begging. Others are small-minded, their thinking used up by chasing pleasures. Resting on a rock bed in a mountain cave, when I pause from meditation, I will spend days smiling inwardly at them.

What it means
From a place of inner calm, the frantic chase for money and pleasure looks almost funny. You do not need a cave to find that view; a little daily stillness can help you see the rush for what it is.

Spoken by Bhartrihari.
