भ्रान्तं देशमनेकदुर्गविषमं प्राप्तं न किंचित्फलं त्यक्त्वा जातिकुलाभिमानमुचितं सेवा कृता निष्फला भुक्तं मानविवर्जितं परगृहेष्वाशङ्कया काकवत्तृष्णे जृम्भसि पापकर्मपिशुने नाद्यापि संतुष्यसि॥

I wandered through rough, dangerous lands and gained nothing. I dropped my pride of family and served others, for nothing. I ate in other people's homes without dignity, nervous like a crow. Craving, you push me to do wrong, you keep growing, and still you are not satisfied.

What it means

Chasing more can cost you your dignity and still leave you empty. Craving never says 'enough'. Notice when you are bending yourself out of shape for a reward that keeps moving further away.

हिंदी में अर्थ

मैं कठिन, ऊबड़-खाबड़ देशों में भटका, पर कुछ नहीं मिला। कुल का अभिमान छोड़कर दूसरों की सेवा की, वह भी बेकार गई। दूसरों के घर कौवे की तरह डरते हुए, बिना इज़्ज़त के खाया। हे तृष्णा, तू बुरे काम कराती है, बढ़ती ही जाती है, फिर भी तुझे संतोष नहीं।

और ज़्यादा पाने की दौड़ इज़्ज़त भी छीन लेती है और खालीपन भी छोड़ जाती है। तृष्णा कभी 'बस' नहीं कहती। देखो, कहीं तुम किसी भागते इनाम के लिए खुद को तो नहीं गिरा रहे।
