Food is begged, tasteless, and eaten once a day. The bed is bare ground. The only attendant is one's own body. Clothing is a ragged quilt of a hundred patches. Alas! Even so, desires refuse to let go.

What it means
Giving up things outside does not automatically quiet the wanting inside. Desire lives in the mind, not in possessions. Real freedom comes from working with the mind, not just changing your surroundings.

Spoken by Bhartrihari.
