Hope is a river. Its water is wishes, its waves are cravings, attachment lurks in it like crocodiles, doubts circle like birds, and it uproots the trees of courage. Its whirlpools of delusion make it deep and hard to cross, and worry forms its high banks. Pure-minded yogis who cross it are filled with joy.

What it means
Endless hoping can feel like being swept downstream: wishes, worries and doubts pulling you in every direction. Peace comes not from getting every wish, but from reaching the far bank where you no longer need them to feel whole.
