Desire for pleasures has faded, people's respect is gone, companions of my age have died, and friends dear as life left suddenly. I rise slowly with a stick, my eyes clouded with darkness. Still, this foolish body jumps at the thought of death.

What it means
Even when almost everything is gone, the fear of death clings on. Rather than waiting for old age to make peace with life's end, start understanding it now, while you still have clarity and strength.

Spoken by Bhartrihari.
