Living on alms, avoiding crowds, always his own master, devoted to a path free of both grabbing and giving up, in ragged clothes picked from the street, a worn quilt for a seat, free of pride and ego, he longs only to enjoy the bliss of peace. Such an ascetic stands apart.

What it means
Freedom from pride and ego, and from both greed and forced sacrifice, is a deep kind of inner balance. You do not need rags to practise it; just notice when ego or greed is steering your choices.

Spoken by Bhartrihari.
