Deer graze here calmly, without fear, trusting the place. The trees are heavy with flowers and fruit, all protected by compassion. There are many tawny cows, and no ploughed fields anywhere. This is surely a hermitage; that smoke rises from many sacred fires.

What it means
You can recognise a peaceful place by how its animals behave. Where creatures are not afraid, people are kind. Make your home, school or office a place where even the most vulnerable feel safe to be themselves.

Spoken by Bhāsa.
