yasya tvaya vranaviropanam ingudeenam tailam nyashichyata mukhe kushasoochividdhe shyamakamushti-parivardhitako jahati soyam na putrakritakah padaveem mrigas te

Kanva tells Shakuntala: this is the fawn whose mouth you healed with ingudi oil when sharp kusha grass pierced it, the one you raised on handfuls of millet as your adopted child. He will not leave your path.

What it means
Care given to an animal is never forgotten by it. The fawn tugging at Shakuntala's robe shows love returned. Anyone who has rescued a stray or nursed a pet knows that bond is real and deep.

Spoken by Kālidāsa.
