गर्जसि मेघ न यच्छसि तोयं चातकपक्षी व्याकुलितोऽहम् ।
दैवादिह यदि दक्षिणवातः क्व त्वं क्वाहं क्व च जलपातः ॥
The chataka bird says: 'Cloud, you thunder but give no water, and I am desperate. If by chance a south wind blows, where will you be, where will I be, and where will the rain be?'

चातक कहता है: 'हे मेघ, तुम गरजते हो पर जल नहीं देते, और मैं व्याकुल हूँ। अगर संयोग से दक्षिणी हवा चल पड़ी, तो कहाँ तुम, कहाँ मैं और कहाँ वर्षा?'
