iha hi bhavishyati bhavato nayanayugad eva varinam poorah
चातक धूमसमूहं दृष्ट्वा मा धाव वारिधरबुद्ध्या ।
इह हि भविष्यति भवतो नयनयुगादेव वारिणां पूरः ॥
Chataka bird, do not rush toward that cloud of smoke thinking it is a rain-cloud. All you will get there is a flood of water from your own two eyes.
What it means
Not everything that looks like help is help. Some promises are just smoke, and chasing them ends in tears. Before you run toward a quick fix or a smooth talker, check whether there is real rain in that cloud.हिंदी में अर्थ
हे चातक, धुएँ के गुबार को बादल समझकर उसकी ओर मत दौड़ो। वहाँ तुम्हें पानी तो मिलेगा, पर केवल अपनी ही आँखों से बहता हुआ।
जो मदद जैसा दिखे, वह हर बार मदद नहीं होता। कुछ वादे सिर्फ़ धुआँ होते हैं, जिनका पीछा आँसुओं पर खत्म होता है। किसी आसान रास्ते की ओर दौड़ने से पहले जाँचिए, बादल में पानी है या नहीं।
