Sage Kanva says: 'Shakuntala leaves today,' and my heart aches, my throat is choked with held-back tears, my eyes are dulled with worry. If I, a forest hermit, feel such pain from love, how much must fathers at home suffer when a daughter departs?

What it means
Kalidasa captures every parent's goodbye: at a wedding, a hostel gate, an airport. Pride and heartbreak arrive together. If you are the one leaving, remember someone's throat is choking as they wave.

Spoken by Kālidāsa.
