शरीरं सुरूपं तथा वा कलत्रं यशश्चारु चित्रं धनं मेरुतुल्यम् ।
मनश्चेन्न लग्नं गुरोरङ्घ्रिपद्मे ततः किं ततः किं ततः किं ततः किम् ॥
You may have a handsome body, a lovely spouse, wide and varied fame, and wealth as high as Mount Meru. But if your mind is not fixed at the guru's lotus feet, what then? What then? What then?
What it means
Shankara keeps asking 'So what?' to every worldly prize. It is a useful question to ask yourself. Achievements are fine, but without an inner anchor of wisdom and humility, they leave you strangely empty.हिंदी में अर्थ
सुंदर शरीर हो, सुंदर जीवनसाथी हो, चारों ओर यश हो और मेरु पर्वत जितना धन हो, पर यदि मन गुरु के चरण-कमलों में न लगा हो, तो फिर क्या? फिर क्या? फिर क्या?
शंकराचार्य हर सांसारिक उपलब्धि पर पूछते हैं — 'तो क्या?' यह सवाल खुद से भी पूछिए। उपलब्धियाँ ठीक हैं, पर ज्ञान और विनम्रता का भीतरी सहारा न हो तो वे खाली लगती हैं।
