Subhashitas Subhashita 421 meaning

apoorvah kopi kop-agnih sajjanasya khalasya cha ekasya shamyati snehad vardhatenyasya varitah

The fire of anger works strangely in good and wicked people. In one it is calmed by sneha, affection; in the other it grows when someone tries to stop it.

What it means
There is a pun here: sneha means both oil and love. Ordinary fire grows with oil, but a good person's anger melts with kindness. Notice which way you respond when someone reaches out to calm you down.
