Subhashitas Subhashita 422 meaning

avaman-arani-mathitam durvag-indhana-vivardhitajvalam satpurushah kop-agnim jnan-ambughataih prashamayanti

Anger is a fire sparked by the friction of insult and fed by the fuel of harsh words. Good people put it out with pots full of the water of understanding.

What it means
Every angry exchange needs fuel: one more sharp reply, one more reminder of the insult. Understanding is the water. Ask what the other person is going through, and the flames have less to burn.
