jhoothehun hamahi doshu jani dehoo dui kai chari magi maku lehoo
raghukul reeti sada chali aee pran jahun baru bachanu na jaee
झूठेहुँ हमहि दोषु जनि देहू। दुइ कै चारि मागि मकु लेहू॥
रघुकुल रीति सदा चलि आई। प्रान जाहुँ बरु बचनु न जाई॥
Don't blame me falsely; ask for four boons instead of two if you like. It has always been the way of Raghu's family: life may go, but a promise must not be broken.
What it means
The most quoted line of the Ramayana: a promise is sacred. Think carefully before you give your word, and once given, keep it even when it costs you.How it helps in real life
- As a parent: You promised your daughter you'd attend her annual day, then a client meeting came up. Reschedule the meeting and be in that front row.
- With money: You promised to repay your friend's loan by Diwali but money is tight. Pay part on time, and tell him your plan for the rest.

मुझे झूठा दोष मत दो; चाहे दो के बदले चार वर माँग लो। रघुकुल की यह रीति सदा से चली आई है कि प्राण भले चले जाएँ, पर वचन नहीं जाना चाहिए।
