Mahabharata 8.49.50 meaning
dharanad dharmam ity-ahur dharmo dharayati prajah
yah syad dharanasanyuktah sa dharma iti nishchayah
धारणाद्धर्ममित्याहुर्धर्मो धारयति प्रजाः।
यः स्याद्धारणसंयुक्तः स धर्म इति निश्चयः॥
They call it dharma because it holds things together; dharma upholds all beings. Whatever sustains and supports is surely dharma.
