Gold is tested by a burning straw, a good person by everyday dealings, a brave one in moments of fear, a steady one in money troubles, and friends and enemies in hard times.

What it means
You really know people only under pressure. Watch how someone behaves in daily dealings, in danger and in hard times — that is their true quality, not what they say in easy moments.

Spoken by Vidura.
