atmanam eva prathamam desharoopena yo jayet
tatomatyan amitransh cha na mogham vijigeeshate
आत्मानमेव प्रथमं देशरूपेण यो जयेत्।
ततोऽमात्यानमित्रांश्च न मोघं विजिगीषते॥
Whoever first conquers himself, treating his own self as the territory to be won, and only then sets out to win over ministers and enemies, never strives in vain.
