Mahabharata 5.34.46 meaning
sheelam pradhanam purushe tad yasyeha pranashyati
na tasya jeevitenartho na dhanena na bandhubhih
शीलं प्रधानं पुरुषे तद्यस्येह प्रणश्यति।
न तस्य जीवितेनार्थो न धनेन न बन्धुभिः॥
Character is the main thing in a person. If someone's character is ruined, his life, his wealth and his relatives are of no use to him.
