Mahabharata 5.34.18 meaning
pushpam pushpam vichinveeta moolachchedam na karayet
malakara ivarame na yathangarakarakah
पुष्पं पुष्पं विचिन्वीत मूलच्छेदं न कारयेत्।
मालाकार इवारामे न यथाङ्गारकारकः॥
Gather flower by flower, but never cut the roots — like a gardener tending a garden, not like a charcoal-maker who burns the whole tree.

फूल-फूल चुनो, पर जड़ मत काटो — बगीचे के माली की तरह बनो, पेड़ जलाकर कोयला बनाने वाले की तरह नहीं।
माली की तरह सोचिए, कोयला बनाने वाले की तरह नहीं। ग्राहक हों, कर्मचारी हों या प्रकृति — जड़ों को संभालिए, फल जीवनभर मिलेंगे।
