Mahabharata 3.313.117 meaning
tarkopratishthah shrutayo vibhinna n-aiko munir yasya matam pramanam
dharmasya tattvam nihitam guhayam mahajano yena gatah sa panthah
Argument has no firm ground, the scriptures say different things, and there is no single sage whose word settles everything. The truth of dharma is hidden deep, as if in a cave. The path is the one walked by the great and good.
What it means
When debates go in circles and sources disagree, look at how genuinely good people actually live. Their example is often clearer than any argument. Find people of integrity and walk the way they walk.
Spoken by Yudhishthira.
