Mahabharata 3.31.7 meaning
rajanam dharmagoptaram dharmo rakshati rakshitah
iti me shrutam aryanam tvam tu manye na rakshati
Dharma protects the king who protects dharma; so I have heard from the noble. But I think it does not protect you.
What it means
This is the source of the saying 'dharmo rakshati rakshitah'. Draupadi questions it bitterly in exile. The verse holds both faith and doubt: doing right protects us, though not always on our timeline.
Spoken by Draupadi.
