Mahabharata 17.3.9 meaning
anaryam aryena sahasranetra shakyam kartum dushkaram etad arya
ma me shriya sangamanam tay-astu yasyah krite bhaktajanam tyajeyam
अनार्यमार्येण सहस्रनेत्र शक्यं कर्तुं दुष्करमेतदार्य।
मा मे श्रिया संगमनं तयास्तु यस्याः कृते भक्तजनं त्यजेयम्॥
For a noble person, O thousand-eyed one, it is very hard to do an ignoble thing. Let me not have that glory if for its sake I must abandon one devoted to me.
What it means
No reward, not even heaven itself, is worth betraying someone who trusts you. Yudhishthira shows that true character is revealed when goodness costs us something really big.हिंदी में अर्थ
हे सहस्रनेत्र, सज्जन के लिए नीच काम करना बहुत कठिन है। मुझे वह वैभव न मिले जिसके लिए मुझे अपने भक्त को छोड़ना पड़े।
कोई भी इनाम, स्वर्ग भी, भरोसा करने वाले को धोखा देने लायक नहीं। चरित्र तब दिखता है जब अच्छाई की बड़ी कीमत चुकानी पड़े।
