vedasyopanishat satyam satyasyopanishad damah
damasyopanishan moksha etat sarvanushasanam
The secret essence of the Veda is truth; the essence of truth is self-control; the essence of self-control is freedom. This is the whole of the teaching.
What it means
A three-step ladder for life: learn the truth, live it through self-control, and that discipline sets you free. Freedom is not doing whatever you like; it is no longer being pushed around by your impulses.
Spoken by Hamsa (the Swan).
