Mahabharata 12.168.7 meaning
nashte dhane va dare va putre pitari va mrite
aho duhkham iti dhyayan shokasyapachitim charet
When wealth is lost, or a wife, son or father dies, one should reflect, 'Ah, such is sorrow', and so work toward easing the grief.
What it means
Bhishma does not tell you to pretend loss does not hurt. Name it: this is sorrow. Recognising pain as pain, part of every human life, is the first step toward slowly healing from it.
Spoken by Bhishma.
