Mahabharata 1.94.88 meaning
adya prabhriti me dasha brahmacharyam bhavishyati
aputrasy-api me loka bhavishyanty-akshaya divi
अद्य प्रभृति मे दाश ब्रह्मचर्यं भविष्यति।
अपुत्रस्यापि मे लोका भविष्यन्त्यक्षया दिवि॥
From this day on, fisher-king, I shall live a life of celibacy. Even without a son, I will reach the undying worlds in heaven.
What it means
Prince Devavrata gives up both throne and family life so his father can marry, and is renamed Bhishma, 'the one of the terrible vow'. It shows the cost and power of total sacrifice.हिंदी में अर्थ
हे दाशराज, आज से मैं आजीवन ब्रह्मचर्य का पालन करूँगा। पुत्र न होने पर भी मुझे स्वर्ग के अक्षय लोक मिलेंगे।
देवव्रत ने पिता के विवाह के लिए राजगद्दी और गृहस्थी दोनों छोड़ दीं, और भीष्म कहलाए। यह पूर्ण त्याग की ताक़त और कीमत दिखाता है।
