Mahabharata 1.75.50 meaning

na jatu kamah kamanam upabhogena shamyati havisha krishnavartm-eva bhooya ev-abhivardhate

Desire is never quenched by enjoying what is desired. Like fire fed with ghee, it only blazes up all the more.

What it means
After a thousand years of pleasure, King Yayati found he wanted more than ever. Feeding cravings does not satisfy them. Peace comes from understanding desire, not endlessly chasing it.

Spoken by Yayati.
