Mahabharata 1.37.22 meaning
sarvatha vartamanasya rajno hy-asmadvidhaih sada
kshantavyam putra dharmo hi hato hanti na sanshayah
We must always bear with a king who protects us, whatever he does, my son. For dharma, when struck down, strikes back; there is no doubt.
What it means
A sage scolds his son for cursing a king over a single insult. Repaying wrong with a bigger wrong breaks the very order that protects us. Forgiveness is often wiser than revenge.
Spoken by Shamika.
