Katha Upanishad 1.2.20 meaning

anor aneeyan mahato maheeyan atm-asya jantor nihito guhayam tam akratuh pashyati veetashoko dhatuprasadan mahimanam atmanah

Smaller than the smallest, greater than the greatest, the Self lies hidden in the heart of every creature. One free of selfish wanting, through a calm and clear mind, sees its glory and leaves sorrow behind.

What it means
The vastness we seek outside is already within us. A quiet, clear mind is like still water: it lets us see what was always there. Clarity, not effort alone, ends sorrow.

Spoken by Yama.
