Hitopadesha 1.83 meaning

durjanah priyavadee cha na-itad vishvasakaranam madhu tishthati jihvagre hridi halahalam visham

A wicked person speaking sweetly is no reason to trust them. Honey sits on the tip of their tongue, while deadly poison sits in their heart.

What it means
Pleasant words cost nothing and can hide anything. Judge people by their track record and actions, not by how nicely they talk — especially when they want something from you.

Spoken by Subuddhi the crow.
