durjanena samam sakhyam vairam ch-api na karayet
ushno dahati ch-angarah sheetah krishnayate karam
दुर्जनेन समं सख्यं वैरं चापि न कारयेत्।
उष्णो दहति चाङ्गारः शीतः कृष्णायते करम्॥
Make neither friendship nor enmity with a wicked person. A coal burns your hand when it is hot, and blackens it when it is cold.

दुष्ट व्यक्ति से न दोस्ती करनी चाहिए, न दुश्मनी। अंगारा गरम हो तो हाथ जलाता है और ठंडा हो तो हाथ काला कर देता है।
कुछ लोग पास रहें या दुश्मन बनें, नुकसान ही करते हैं। समझदारी इसी में है कि उनसे विनम्र दूरी रखें — न गहरी दोस्ती, न झगड़ा।
