dhanavan iti hi madas te kim gatavibhavo vishadam upayasi karanihatakandukasamah pat-otpata manushyanam

Why be proud because you are rich, or sink into despair because your fortune is gone? People's rises and falls are like a ball struck by the hand — down one moment, up the next.

What it means
Fortunes bounce like a ball — what goes down comes up, and what is up comes down. Stay humble at the top and hopeful at the bottom, because neither position lasts.

Spoken by Manthara the tortoise.
