Chandogya Upanishad 8.7.1 meaning

ya atm-apahatapapma vijaro vimrityur vishoko vijighatsopipasah satyakamah satyasankalpah sonveshtavyah sa vijijnasitavyah

The Self that is free from evil, free from old age, free from death, free from sorrow, free from hunger and thirst, whose desires and intentions are true — that is what should be searched for, that is what one should seek to know.

What it means
Prajapati's words set off a famous quest: Indra of the gods and Virochana of the demons both come to learn. The lesson is that the deepest Self is untouched by ageing, grief and guilt — worth seeking above all.

Spoken by Prajapati.
