Chandogya Upanishad 6.10.1 meaning

imah somya nadyah purastat prachyah syandante pashchat prateechyas tah samudrat samudram ev-apiyanti sa samudra eva bhavati ta yatha tatra na vidur iyam aham asm-eeyam aham asm-eeti

My dear, these rivers flow east and west. From the ocean they rise and into the ocean they return, becoming the ocean itself. There they no longer think, "I am this river, I am that river."

What it means
Each river has its own name and journey, yet all end in the same ocean. Our separate identities are real on the way, but they are not the whole story. This brings comfort around loss and endings.

Spoken by Uddalaka.
