Chanakya Niti 8.1 meaning
adhama dhanam ichchanti dhanamanau cha madhyamah
uttama manam ichchanti mano hi mahatam dhanam
अधमा धनमिच्छन्ति धनमानौ च मध्यमाः ।
उत्तमा मानमिच्छन्ति मानो हि महतां धनम् ॥
The lowest people want only money, ordinary people want both money and respect, but the best want honour, for honour is the true wealth of the great.
What it means
Money is useful, but reputation and self-respect are worth more. Never trade your integrity for a quick gain. The respect you earn through honest work is wealth no one can take.हिंदी में अर्थ
निम्न लोग केवल धन चाहते हैं, मध्यम लोग धन और मान दोनों, पर उत्तम लोग सम्मान चाहते हैं, क्योंकि सम्मान ही महान लोगों का धन है।
पैसा ज़रूरी है, पर साख और आत्मसम्मान उससे बढ़कर हैं। जल्दी के फ़ायदे के लिए ईमान मत बेचो। ईमानदार मेहनत से कमाया सम्मान कोई नहीं छीन सकता।
