Chanakya Niti 16.8 meaning

parair uktaguno yas tu nirgunopi gunee bhavet indropi laghutam yati svayam prakhyapitair gunaih

Someone whose qualities are praised by others is seen as gifted, even with few gifts. But even Indra, king of the gods, looks small when he advertises his own virtues.

What it means
Self-praise shrinks you; genuine praise from others lifts you. Let your work and the people you've helped speak for you. Bragging, even about real achievements, quietly costs respect.

Spoken by Chanakya.
